On September 9th, 1992 Snake River Falls was announced as the following year’s new attraction. Originally planned to be heavily themed inside of a mountain, the ride opened with none of the planned theming elements. A shack type structure was added to cover the turnaround at the top of the lift.
On May 8th, 1993 the water ride opened as the tallest, fastest, and steepest water ride of its kind in the world. Located on the end of the Frontier Trail, Snake River Falls opened with a sign that said “Sponsored by Pepsi.”
The year following Snake River Falls’ opening, Cedar Point announced Raptor. Raptor required the removal of Mill Race – a water ride, thus Snake River Falls was a replacement for a ride to be removed.
Snake River Falls was repainted in between the 2009 and 2010 season to look fresh next to the park’s newest water ride, Shoot the Rapids.
