The Other Things to do at Halloweekends
It’s that time of year again. That’s right, Cedar Point’s premier Halloween event, Halloweekends, is here once again! Obviously, this means haunted houses and scare zones galore (Cedar Point boasts 5 of each) but did you know that there are also plenty of other wonderful things to do at Halloweekends for the whole family!
First and foremost is all the specialty food that the wonderful chefs at the park created specially for Halloweekends. This past Friday we got the chance to try some of this fantastic food at the park’s Creator / Media Day event.
First up are bread boules at Farmhouse Kitchen and Grill. These are offered with the famous Farmhouse chili that is offered year long, along with broccoli cheddar soup. During the event we got to sample the chili on its own, and as always it was fantastic. While the bread boules and other specialty food items are not on the meal plan, it is worth noting that the chili on its own can be taken as an entree or a side on the meal plan.
Next was Nashville Hot Chicken served with liège waffles, also known as pearl sugar waffles, located at The Corral. The Corral already has great chicken tenders. Add on top of that a very spicy Nashville style hot sauce and serve it over fresh liège waffles and you have this fantastic dish. The chicken on its own is super flavorful and has quite the hit of heat, but where this dish really shines is the waffle. The sweetness from the sugar crystals in the waffle mixed with the spicy flavor from the hot sauce makes for an incredibly flavorful dish that is sure to leave you happy, and maybe even crying some tears from that hot sauce!
Keeping the spicy train rolling we move on to BackBeatQue and their Wings of Fire Smoked Chicken Wings. BackBeatQue offers whole smoked BBQ chicken wings all season (and they are fantastic) but during Halloweekends this year they are also offering those same fabulous wings but this time served with spicy hot sauce and fresh jalapenos. The result is a wonderful blend of smoky flavor and lots of heat! Even with a meal plan, it is worth paying extra for these wings!
Next, we move on to dessert, starting with Cheesecake Chimichangas available at the snack bar on the second floor of The Grand Pavilion. These were a surprise hit for us! Take cheesecake, wrap it in a flakey dough and fry it then finish it with apple pie topping, caramel sauce, and powdered sugar. A wonderful, sweet treat with tons of flavor.
The last taste we had was the Spider Cupcake available at Frontier Inn. This is a chocolate cupcake topped with marshmallow frosting, sugar, and finished with a chocolate spider. The marshmallow topping added a lot to this cupcake and really made it stand out. Though it was not available for us to try, Frontier Inn also offers the Not so Poison Apple Cupcake which is an apple cinnamon cupcake topped with buttermilk frosting and a candy shell made to look like a crisp red apple.
Along with that stuff there is also the following specialty food items available:
Maple Sausage on a Stick at Hot Potato
Pumpkin Pie Spiced Churros at French Quarter Confections
Oktoberfest Pizza at Hugo’s Italian Kitchen
So, on top of all the wonderful food Cedar Point offers all season, these are incredible additions to the food lineup at the park.
Moving on to other things for the whole family are all the daytime activities the park offers like the yearly Pumpkin Hollow along the Top Thrill 2 Midway. The park takes the gardens and fills them with pumpkins, creating different designs with the pumpkins. It is certainly a sight to behold!
Near Blue Streak there is the kids haunted house, The Magical House on Boo Hill, and hay bale maze.
Moving over to The Bonewalk (also known as The Boardwalk) there are plenty of great photo opportunities with giant skeletons along with crafts for kids in the Gatekeeper plaza.
Finally trick or treating returns to Kiddie Kingdom along with other kid friendly activities and games with awesome prizes to win for the little ones!
Cedar Point’s Halloweekends runs Thursdays-Sundays every weekend from now until the end of October with nighttime frights Thursdays-Saturdays and daytime fun Fridays-Sundays (and all that yummy food available everyday).
